I loved this story. I thought it flowed seamlessly, was realistic without being boring, and read beautifully. The main character is in a marriage she is completely unsatisfied by. She lies to her husband about being in an affair, he gets angry, she breaks his nose, and somehow this violence brings them closer together.
This story was a pleasure to read. Nothing felt particularly forced, and the imagery blended seamlessly. There were a few places in the dialogue where I thought a contraction would feel more realistic, however. A few of the descriptions were placed in areas that disrupted the flow of the tension, also, but I think those should be easy fixes.
The exposition of her thoughts on the first page was done very well. I could feel how confused she was about her relationship. Later on, when she is at the party and telling us how easy it is to hide how unhappy she is was, in my opinion, perfect. I felt like I knew exactly how she felt.
I would have liked to have seen more of the kids in the story. I felt like they were only in the story as props. It would have been nice to see how the husband and wife's parenting was affected by the tension in their marriage.
Also, it would have been nice to see a little more physicality in the last scene. I thought Bill would have shown a little more anger at being called a coward.
All in all, I loved this story, and I can't wait to see how much better it can get.
